Heritage: 135 Years of Spray Finishing

Binks isn't just another spray equipment brand — it's the brand that invented the category. In 1890, Joseph Binks, a maintenance supervisor at Marshall Field's department store in Chicago, built the world's first cold-water paint spraying machine. Three years later, his invention rescued the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition when nine of ten exhibit buildings stood unpainted days before opening. By 1911, the company bore his name. By the 1920s, Binks spray guns had collapsed automotive finishing time from nearly a month down to three days, fundamentally enabling the modern automotive assembly line.

That lineage matters. When you specify Binks, you're specifying 135 years of continuous, focused engineering in one of the most demanding disciplines in industrial manufacturing: getting coatings onto surfaces consistently, efficiently, and at scale.

Today's Binks: A Global Finishing Platform

In January 2025, the parent company formerly known as Carlisle Fluid Technologies officially unified its portfolio under the Binks name — bringing DeVilbiss, Ransburg, MS, and BGK together as sub-brands within a single Binks-led platform representing over 375 years of collective finishing-industry experience. The result is one of the broadest single-source liquid and powder finishing portfolios available to North American industry, covering:

Spray guns — conventional, HVLP, LVMP, air-assisted airless, airless, and electrostatic, in both manual and automatic configurations
Fluid handling — diaphragm pumps (including the DX200 platform), piston pumps, ram and inductor units, pressure feed tanks, and complete paint circulating systems
2K plural-component mixing and delivery systems for high-performance and reactive coatings
