What replaced the Wagner Sprint X and Sprint XE?

Accepted Answer

The SPRINT 2 is Wagner's direct successor to the Sprint X and Sprint XE manual powder systems. It keeps the proven PEM-X1 gun platform but replaces the EPG controller with the WACON Sprint 2 family, adds the Quick-Link injector for much faster color changes, and introduces the Digital Surface Optimizer and (on Expert models) an integrated powder scale with process documentation. CET continues to stock spare parts for Sprint X and XE systems, and the manuals remain available in our document library.

Should I choose box feed (B) or hopper feed (H)?

Box feed sprays directly from the original 25 kg powder carton sitting on a vibrating platform — there is no hopper to empty and clean, which makes it the fastest option for shops that change colors several times per shift. Hopper feed fluidizes powder in a 25L or 60L stainless steel hopper for a steadier, conditioned powder column — the better choice when you run one color all day or need maximum application consistency. Note that hoppers are sold separately on H systems.

What does the Expert tier add over the standard SPRINT 2 B and H?

Expert systems (2473753 box, 2473767 hopper) replace the rotary-knob WACON Sprint 2 XE with a 7-inch touchscreen WACON Expert controller. That adds the WAGNER Wizard — a five-step guided recipe builder — plus an integrated powder scale that tracks consumption in real time, process documentation with USB export, user management, and optional EtherCAT and COATIFY cloud connectivity. Output also rises from 420 to 480 g/min with closed-loop Air Flow Control. If you quote jobs by powder usage or need coating records for audits, the Expert tier pays for itself.

How fast are color changes on the SPRINT 2?

The Quick-Link injector was designed specifically to cut color-change time: it disconnects from the powder source without tools, and on box-feed systems you simply swap the carton. Wagner's own figures put a box-feed color change at a fraction of the time of a hopper system. The cup-gun case set is the extreme case — swapping the 0.2L cup takes about 15 seconds, which is why labs and sample shops use it.

Can I use my existing PEM-X1 gun or Sprint X accessories with a SPRINT 2?

Accepted Answer

The PEM-X1 gun itself carries over — it is the same X1-platform gun used on late Sprint X and XE systems, and nozzles, electrode holders, and extensions interchange across the X1 family. The EPG Sprint X controller and the old injector hardware do not transfer; the SPRINT 2 uses the WACON Sprint 2 controller family and the Quick-Link injector. What compressed air supply does the SPRINT 2 need?

Plan on 6–8 bar (87–116 PSI) of clean, dry, oil-free compressed air. Powder coating is especially sensitive to oil and moisture in the air line — any contamination shows up as craters and fisheyes in the cured finish, so a refrigerated dryer and coalescing filtration ahead of the system are strongly recommended.

Is the SPRINT 2 safe for use in a powder coating booth environment?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the system carries ATEX II 3 D explosion-protection identification for use in potentially explosive dust atmospheres, and the operating manual details grounding requirements, permissible device combinations, and safe-discharge information. Always ground the unit and the workpiece per the manual, and use it with adequate booth extraction.
